Geo436.com blog: Sugar price up Rs.15/kg at Utility stores

Geo 436 ISLAMABAD: Utility Store Corporation (USC) has sent a summary to Ministry of Industries Production, seeking Rs.15/kg raise in sugar price at Utility stores, Geo News reported Tuesday.

The officials at the ministry have also confirmed the same, saying that currently, sugar is available at Rs.55/kg at Utility stores whose price is going to be hiked by Rs.15/kg to sell at Rs.70/kg from Rs.55.

Sources privy to ministry said the price may be inflated latest by Friday.

Talking to Geo News, the USC officials said Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) decided to maintain the difference of Rs.10-15 in sugar price between Open Market and Utility store.

On contacting by Geo News, ministry sources were of the view that the sugar sells at Rs.85/kg in open market while Utility store price is Rs.55/kg.

After approval of summary, the sugar prices will be raised within two to three days, ministry officials added.
