Geo436.com blog: South Korea hosts multi-national maritime drill

Geo436 South Korea hosted a two-day multinational maritime drill of intercepting weapons of mass destruction which concluded on Thursday.
The U.S.-led Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) naval drill started on Wednesday (October 13) off the southern port city of Busan.
South Korea hosted the exercise, code named Eastern Endeavour 10, for the first time. About 10 warships and aircraft from South Korea, the U.S., Japan and Australia participated, Seoul’s Yonhap News Agency reported on Thursday.
The agency also said South Korea became the PSI’s 96th full member last year after North Korea’s second nuclear test. North Korea condemned the move as a declaration of war against Pyongyang.
Seoul announced in May its plans to host the PSI drill. The announcement came after the March sinking of a South Korean naval ship. South Korea pointed the finger of blame to North korea, but Pyongyang has denied any involvement in the ship sinking incident.
The agency quoted a Seoul’s Defence Ministry official as saying the PSI exercise did not target any specific country, including North Korea.
North and South Korea are still technically at war since the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a truce without a peace treaty.
