Geo436.com blog: SC hears Adiala Jail case, calls Punjab CS, AG

Geo436 ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has called Attorney General of Pakistan and Punjab Chief Secretary for a clear-cut answer in a case regarding 11 prisoners who went missing from Adiala Jail of Rawalpindi, Geo News reported Wednesday.

A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry heard the case of Adiala Jail's missing prisoners, who were exonerated from four terrorism cases.

Attorney General of Pakistan Maulvi Anwarul Haq told the court these prisoners are not under the custody of country's spy agencies.

When Chief Secretary of Punjab tried to read out his report on the prisoners, the CJ Chaudhry cut him short, saying the matter is highly important; if needed, this report would be taken up.

The CJ said it was stated in a Special Branch report presented in the last hearing that these prisoner were lifted by the spy agencies.

The CJ Chaudhry remarked that no ambiguity should be spawned in the case and both the AG and Chief Secretary of Punjab should submit a clear-cut answer by this afternoon.
