Geo436.com blog: Ebad comes to traders’ rescue

Geo 436 KARACHI: The call of power shutdown in industries in Karachi due to be observed from Wednesday has been withdrawn on Tuesday after Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad assured six Trade Unions of ending electricity load shedding in metropolis, Geo News reported.

Talking to Geo News, the president Pakistan Chamber of Commerce, Sultan Chawla, said after the surge was witnessed in the duration of unprecedented load shedding in Karachi's industrial areas, the production has seen slide at an alarming pace, leaving the traders helpless to continue production.

He, however, said Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad has given assurance of finishing power outages in industrial areas from Wednesday after he consulted with Federal Minister for Petroleum Naveed Qamar and officials from Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).

"Upon his assurance, the call of power shutdown has been postponed temporarily", he warned adding that the trade unions of Korangi, Landhi, Quaidabad, Site Karachi, Superhighway and North Karachi had earlier decided to go on strike for an indefinite period from Wednesday.

The production in all small and big industries in Karachi had come to complete halt if trade unions would have started observing strike from Wednesday, he said.

"But now, all trade unions have decided to withdraw call of strike for the time being", he underlined giving warnings of continuing with the announcement if the government failed to keep its words.
