2011 Nissan Quest Redesign Photos Ahead of Review
July 8, 2010 at 12:26 AM

With just five months to go until the Los Angeles Auto Show, AutoWeek thought that they would take this opportunity to have a first look at the upcoming 2011 Nissan Quest with a bunch of photos of this redesign. In December there will be a full review of the vehicle – until then photos will have to do.

This new minivan will be in direct competition with Honda and Toyota – well the latter is making it easy for their competitors with a host of recalls. You will notice by these photos that the new Quest is based on the Japanese vehicle – the Elgrand van.

Not much is known about the redesigned minivan, but we do know that it will be five inches wider for the U.S. market and that a 3.7-liter V6 engine will power it. This offers more power than you will ever need from a minivan, but we have to wonder what MPG figures will be achieved?

We know that it is boring going on about how economical a vehicle is, but it is something that the government will be keeping a close eye on to help reduce carbon emissions. You had best hope that the U.S. do not go the way that other countries do, where you get charged more for road fund license for more gas-guzzling vehicles. 2011 Model Cars, Trucks and SUVs Preview
July 7, 2010 at 11:29 PM

This is our first of a number of posts where we aim to take a closer look at the 2011 model cars, trucks and SUVs. This early preview will give you insight in what to expect over the coming year, such as price, specs and that all-important on-the-road price.

The most extensive source of information currently has to be MSN Autos, they begin by talking about how the auto industry as a whole was able to struggle through the lean times of 2009 and has now started what is believed to be a long recovery process.

General Motors and other U.S. automakers may have had some tough times, but none more so than Toyota with their constant recalls. However, these new bunch of 2011 models aims to put that all behind them – we just hope that they will measure up.

It is a certainty that a huge percentage of these 2011 cars, trucks and SUVs will perform poorly in sales, but there are certainly a few gems coming up within the next 18 months. Come back soon, where we will be looking at a number of 2011 models.

Toyota's Lexus Recall Prompts Extended Product Development
July 7, 2010 at 11:08 PM

The latest Lexus recall has prompted Toyota in to extending their product development time by four weeks, in the hope of improving quality so that this will save them from embracement and financial trouble with shareholders. Not a month goes by without Toyota being mentioned in a recall, and it seems that things have started to get worse.

The Japanese automaker was renowned for making reliable vehicles, but now seems to be hit with quality issues – maybe it is cost cutting or just trying to push cars out of the production facility too fast? Toyota currently employs 14,000 staff in research and development, 1,000 of which has been put aside to improve quality.

Since late last year Toyota has recalled over 10 million vehicles – 8 million were just for the Prius Hybrid model due to unintended acceleration. This particular problem cost Toyota millions of dollars in fines from the U.S. government, as it came to light that the automaker had known about the issue long before a recall came into affect.

Extending production by four weeks is one of the many steps that Toyota has already taken in the hope of improving quality. The downside is that all these changes will take time to see a difference in the cars that we drive.
