Two dead, as mercury soars higher amid power outages


GEO 436 KARACHI: The most areas of the country are worst hit by the hot weather amid the miseries augmented by the prolonged power outages with tall claims by the government gone fizzled out, Geo News reported Thursday. The ice also is not easily available in the market as the mercury has risen to higher level to cap it that the ice price also burgeoned. The weather in Jakobabad and its adjoining areas is extremely hot since this morning with dust-carrying gales. Suffering sunstroke, at least two people lost their lives in Thal and Goth Ahmed Mian Soomro during the last 24 hours. The load shedding span widened to 14 to 16 hours in Sindh . The temperature in Nawabashah and Larkana exceeds 50 degree centigrade, where the afflicted people are on the pins with 14 to 16 hours of load shedding. Ghotki is witnessing the ice shortage crisis amid 16-hour power outages. Other Sindh areas are also suffering from the scorching heat and the acute anguish of load shedding. The situation is not different in Punjab where a student lost consciousness while taking his exam paper in Mandi Bahaud Din owing to seething weather and load shedding. Other Punjab urban and rural areas including Faisalabad, Jhang, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan are afflicted with the dual torment of huge simmering temperature and absence of power for long spans. The mercury jumps beyond 50-centigrade threshold in Balochistan areas of Naseerabad, Jafferabad and Sibbi; also markets here wear deserted look through the day owing to hot gales. The protracted power outages have brazenly exposed people to excruciating torments. The hot wave persisted in Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw as well with strong and searing gale-force winds. Also, the demand for ice and cold drinks soared. The cities have to suffer from 10 to 12-hour of load shedding and rural areas face 12 to 14-hour span.
