5 police who publicly flogged accused set free


GEO 436 CHINIOT: A local court on Tuesday acquitted five policemen, who publicly flogged accused at a Chiniot Police Station, over police failure to produce evidence against them. In their statements, the eyewitnesses said that they had not seen any such incident. It is reminded that SHO Razzak, Sub-Inspector Ubaidullah Kalyar, Constable Sajjad Ali Nool, Muhammad Afzal and Sarfaraz of a Chiniot Police Station were seen flogging accused Zeshan Haider, Zafar alias Bhutto and Abid Hussain publicly in a video aired by the media for several days. The policemen were booked under anti-terrorism acts. The case was referred to the Session Judge, who then handed it over to Judicial Magistrate Babar Hussain. After four hearings, those who were flogged by the accused policemen, said the flogging incident did not happen and termed it fake. In addition, eyewitnesses Hakim Ali and Mansha denied that they had seen any such incident. On this, Judicial Magistrate acquitted the policemen.
