Flood-posing lake outpouring increases

GEO 436 HUNZA: The landslide-spurred Lake in Ata Abad rose by two feet, increasing a mediocre overflow from the spillway; however, the situation is wholly under control, Geo News reported Sunday. Talking to Geo News, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Nadeem Ahmed said if the situation went out of control, the people would be apprised summarily. He added the flood wave would be only 15-meter high when it headed for the Gilgit; however, the Gilgit management was all geared up with the complete arrangements to tackle any emergency situation. The people in Shashkat were hugely panicked owing to the heavy landsliding the last night. Also, the people in Gilgit are highly concerned ever since they heard the reports about the overflow from the Spillway. Deputy Controller Examinations Mir Tazeem Akhtar said that the schedule for the intermediate examinations had not been changed despite the hovering danger of a flood in Gilgit, Hunza and Gojal, adding all the exams would be held as per schedule.
