SC adjourns BoP scam case till June 18

GEO 436 ISLAMABAD: The counsel of Bank of Punjab (BoP) objected the change of investigation officer in a notification issued by the federal government during the hearing of scam case at Supreme Court (SC), Geo News reported Wednesday. A three-judge SC's bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry heard the Punjab Bank loan scandal case. The BoP's counsel Khawja Haris took exception at handing the chairmanship of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to the acting Chairman, saying, 'One who had one-time stint as Prosecutor General cannot be reappointed in the same capacity.' Khawja Haris called the attention of the apex court to the notification of Establishment Division, where AIG Aftab Sultan of Punjab has been picked up as the investigative officer. The BoP counsel said the court's orders were not complied with in this notification. Called by the court to respond to these objections, the AG requested the court to give two-day time to set the mistake right in the notification. Later on, the court adjourned hearing till June 18. Giving his caustic remarks on one occasion during the proceedings of the case, the CJ addressed the AG, 'Is the section officer at Establishment Division is superior to the SC?'
