Geo436 LARKANA: The members of a judicial commission appointed by the Sindh Government said Sunday that we are here to visit Tori Bund and other embankments which were breached during the super flood and have received the briefing from Chief Engineer Guddu Barrage.
The two members of the judicial commission appointed by the Sindh Government to investigate the reasons of Tori Bund breach, are former Justice Zahid Qurban Alvi and former Justice Ghulam Nabi Soomro.
The members of the Commission talking to media men at Tori Bund, Kandhkot, on Sunday said that they had taken an aerial view the site of bunds and on October 7 and 8 they will hear the eye witnesses who were present at the time of breach, at DCO Office Kandhkot.
For that purpose they had given advertisement in newspapers that people who have any kind of information should come forward and give a statement and proofs.
They also said they would gather/ collect evidences and compile a report which would be presented to the Sindh Government. Before this the Commission was briefed by Chief Engineer Guddu Zafarullah Mahar, who said that due to unprecedented and unexpected increase of water the Tori Bund was over-topped at 3pm on August 7. He said from August 3 to 7 there were uninterrupted rains of 124mm daily which weakened the embankments.
He said if one observes the record of water at various rivers and barrages it would be proved that this was the biggest flood ever seen in the history which lasted for 20 days as a super flood. He said that the record of flood shows that water was two feet high at right bank of the river than left bank that is why Tori Bund was over-topped.
He further said that all the forecasts of Irrigation experts who had predicted 8 hundred thousand cusecs water flow had gone wrong. They will hear the eye witnesses whoever were present at the time of breach but water exceeded eleven and half hundred thousand cusecs.
Chief Engineer Guddu Barrage said the situation worsened further when there was difference of 250,000 cusecs out flow between Guddu and Sukkur Barrages and water pooled between them.
At that time Colonel Tariq of FWO, DCO Kashmore-Kandhkot Saeed Jumani and DPO Kashmore-Kandhkot and officers were also present on the occasion.
