Terrorist Attack on PNS Mehran Base

There were around 12 blasts which were followed by gunshots. Later, smoke clouds and huge flames could be seen on the site.

Law enforcement agencies and rescue teams have rushed to the site. There are no reports of casualties yet. State of emergency has been declared in all the hospitals in Karachi.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is staging a sit-in in Karachi at Netty Jetty Bridge. A large number of PTI workers along with PTI Chief Imran Khan are participating in the sit-in against the US drone attacks in the tribal areas of Pakistan.

BNewsworld KARACHI: Two powerful explosions and firing were heard near the Pakistan Air force (PAF) Museumjavascript:void(0), BNewsworld reported Sunday night.
Eyewitnesses informed BNewsworld that two blasts were heard at about 10:35pm.

Sources said that 10 to 15 terrorists are still in PNS Mehran where exchange of firing between terrorists and law enforcement agencies continue.

Police, rangers and other law enforcement agencies rushed and cordoned off the area soon after the blasts and firing.

Rescue teams including Edhi and Chhipa ambulances have entered PAF Faisal Base.

The CPLC Chief Ahmed Chinoy said that the situation was not clear yet.

Ahmed requested people to take alternative routes as rush on the roads have disturbed rescue teams to reach on the spot.

Exchange of firing still continues.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik directed law enforcement agencies to reach where terrorists attacked.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has telephoned Rehman Malik, directing him to take appropriate measures immediately.

Four explosions heard outside PAF Museum

Pakistan Army Special Services Group are carrying out Commando Operation in PNS Mehran.

11:26pm
Sporadic fire is continuing at the PAF base says Ahmed Jung reporting for Express 24/7.
The first fire rescue team has reached the spot.

11:20pm
Terrorists entered the base and there is an encounter on going report eye witnesses in the area say.
The Express Tribune correspondent Faraz Khan reports that hand grenades are likely being used according to the sounds from within the base.
There are reports of upto 6-12 terrorists inside the compound. Media standing about 2 kilometres from the blast site.

Reports are coming in that this is a coordinated attack. Security forces are allowing no one inside or out of the base.
Army housing and the PAF museum are also located within the compound.

Four major explosions have been heard so far, along with gunfire. It is as yet unclear whether there is a gun battle going on inside the air base.
Ahmed Jung reporting for Express 24/7 says Rangers, and police officials are on the spot at the PAF base.

According to initial reports a hand grenade was used in the attack and an attacker has been killed.
The force of the blast has shattered surrounding buildings.
Heavy gunfire was also reported after the explosion. An eyewitness said that the blast took place near the gate of Faisal Base.
Police, rangers and rescue had reached the site of the blast.

PNS Mehran under attack in Karachi: Interior MinisterBreaking news KARACHI: Terrorists have launched an armed attack on PNS Mehran, a heavily guarded facility of Pakistan Navy, located along Sharea Faisal, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Sunday. 

TV images showed smoke billowing from PNS Mehran where terrorists have blown up a four-engine plane of Pakistan Navy by firing a rocket.

Five injured in the incident have so far been shifted to a local hospital.

Earlier, four blasts were reported from the area near PAF base Faisal.

Ambulances and fire tenders were seen rushing toward the base following the powerful blasts that were heard across a wide radius.

Gunshots fired from sophisticated weapons were also heard following the blasts.
