Geo436 KARACHI: Unknown gunmen opened fire at Yaum-e-Ali procession near Empress Market in Karachi on Wednesday, leaving several people injured.
According to reports, unknown assailants ambushed the procession from the top of a building located near Empress Market.
Meanwhile, heavy contingent of rangers and police rushed to the scene to control the situation.
The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital.
Three to four persons carrying automated weapons attacked the procession from the top of a two-storey building. Hussain said that law enforcement agencies are trying to control the angry participants of the procession.
Six suspects have been arrested by the security agencies from the site of the attack.
Taking notice of the incident, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Shah ordered immediate arrest of the attackers.
Earlier, Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Mirza directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to pay special attention to the role of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Anti-Violent Crime Unit (AVCU) et cetera, as well as intelligence outfits of the law enforcement agencies while devising a security strategy on the occasion of `Youm-e-Ali'.
At least 10 walkthrough gates and scanners were installed along with a command and control room in Nishtar Park for foolproof security measures.
Dr. Mirza also directed for security cameras be installed along the routes of the procession which should be monitored. There should also be complete sweeps of procession routes by the Bomb Disposal Squad.

Geo 436 ISLAMABAD: The former girlfriend of Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif has been asked to give evidence to the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption unit in a match-fixing investigation.
Veena Malik’s manager Sohail Rashid on Wednesday said the actress has been approached by the ICC. Asif and teammate Mohammad Amir have been implicated in a spot fixing scandal uncovered in a British tabloid newspaper sting.
“They have approached Ms. Malik and will be soon meeting with her,” Rashid told mediamen.
Rashid was not sure when and where the meeting will be held.
An ICC spokesman said the game’s governing body does not comment on the ongoing investigations of its anti-corruption unit.
The actress suspects that an Indian national, who often called and sent text messages to Asif was involving in illegal gambling.
“I was surprised why a guy from India is calling so frequently and sending texts to Asif,” Malik said.
“That was quite suspicious for me …later on he (Asif) went to Thailand to have meeting with this particular guy.”
In England on Wednesday, three Pakistan cricketers implicated in match-fixing allegations were sent to London to face an inquiry with Pakistani officials.
Test captain Salman Butt and pace bowlers Asif and Amir left the team hotel in Taunton to head to London.
Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed said PCB chairman Ijaz Butt had ordered Thursday’s inquiry at the Pakistan High Commission in in London.

New York Stock Exchange offered its large screen to Pakistani officials to extend appeals to the local people so that aid money could be raised for the flood-hit country.
Failing to figure out how to capitalize on the offer, these diplomats of Pakistan Mission screened their pictures at the display, as according to sources, they failed to collect any considerable amount for the flood affectees.
Pakistanis really feel ashamed that Pakistan is now in the hands of these people who are totally incompetent, Illiterate, Corrupt people.
